Thank
you to all those who supporter the
Miller Family. This support allowed
ATBF and the Hopes & Dreams Fund
for Children, Inc. to purchase a van
for Rob.

Below is a letter
from Gloria Miller, Rob's mother:
Any family without
an automobile in our city has a very tough
time. Not having a wheelchair accessible
van for Rob presented so many problems.
Having the van adds a dimension that we
desparately needed. It certainly provides
tremendous advantages for Rob and those
living with him and caring for him. Until
you find yourself in a situation without
it, you just can't appreciate how valuable
a means of travel really is. The emotional
stress of not having a way to transport
your loved one really is hard. Rob and his
family now has one less worry in their lives
by having a wheelchair accessible van. Planning
his trips outside the home has been simplified
as well as more affordable. He has used
the van for doctor visits, grocery store
outings, travel for Thanksgiving dinner
with family at Mom's house, trips to the
barber shop, to the grocery store, and even
out to eat. He will be using the van to
travel to his physical therapy sessions
each week at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta
after the first of the year, as well as
appointments with Social Security, and occupational
rehabilitative meetings. We are expecting
2010 to be a year where Rob will be making
much progress in a lot of areas in his life,
and transportation will play a vital roll
in helping him achieve many of the goals
he is setting for the year. The family is
thrilled with the van and the freedom it
allows them to get Rob to all the places
that are critical in nature, as well as
having a means for the family to travel
together on everyday, routine types of trips.
We really appreciate the contribution from
the Alan T. Brown Foundation that helped
us secure the wheelchair van. It already
has helped expand the horizon for Rob and
his family while they are living through
this journey to recovery, and continues
to help them transition into some of the
more normal routines ---continually improving
their quality of life. Again, thank you
so much for your help, it has made such
a difference in the lives of this family.

Rob Miller
is 37 years old, was injured in June 2009
and is a C-7 quadriplegic. A recently laid-off
lumber salesman, Rob was doing odd-jobs
to supplement his income, and removing a
tree from a backyard, when he fell 25-30
feet.
Rob's wife Paula was critically injured
in a horrible car accident a few years ago
which killed their 12 year old daughter.
They have 3 living children ages 4, 5, and
15.
Currently they are both unable to work,
have no source of income, and limited health
coverage.
Social security disability has been applied
for, however, this family has been without
any
source of funds since June 29, 2009, except
for the county food program, which is very
minimal. He is in an electric wheelchair,
and has no means of transportation right
now since it takes a wheelchair accessible
van to accommodate
his needs.
